02 Jul Hemelhuijs x So Yum…a magical culinary journey
Hold on to your gastronomic hats Joburg – the home of the Cape’s most sophisticated food explorations (in the form of traditional Cape farm cuisine) are heading our way, by way of a rather neat collab too – may we add!
Hemelhuijs and So Yum have collaborated to present Hemelhuijs x So Yum, a new offering anchored by Hemelhuijs’ famous breakfast menu served at So Yum’s Hyde Park premises.
The culinary partnership was brought about by stalwart So Yum’s recent move to a new, larger and more central position upstairs at Hyde Park Corner – one of our fave shopping destinations in the heart of Sandton.
Jacques and Ernst Fischer, owner of So Yum and various other Asian restaurants had long joked about collaborating, and So Yum’s move presented them with the opportunity.
The breakfast menu at So Yum is small and focusses on more traditional Japanese foods, but the main breakfast offering will be coming from the team at Hemelhuijs.
Get ready to enjoy freshly crafted, gem-bright juices and its well-loved signature breakfast dishes. Favourites such as traditional soft “mieliepap” served with local honey and salted butter and toasted “mosbolletjie” loaf with cultured cream and hand-made jam or marmalade are all set to tantalise your tastebuds!
More hearty options will also abound – grilled farm sausage in tomato and onion “smoor” with soft poached egg or any of the other expressions of that Hemelhuijs hero, the soft poached egg. They’re also served with homemade potato rösti with herbed crème fraiche and with roasted artichoke and hollandaise.
From lunch on, the menu will once again revert back to predominantly So Yum fare, albeit with a selection of So Yum x Hemelhuijs salads which can be constructed on bases such as the delectable papino, orange and shaved fennel with fragrant leaves and honey-lime dressing, or raw shaved vegetables and pear, beetroot and Japanese dressing. So Yum x Hemelhuijs will also serve a selection of their Cape Town counterpart’s paradisal cocktails.
So Yum is located at Shop 24, Middle Mall, Hyde Park Corner, Cnr Smuts Ave & William Nicol Dr.
Hemelhuijs X So Yum breakfast is served from Monday to Sunday 08h00 – 12h00.
