It’s no secret that we’re a fan of cocktails – crisp, dry, sweet or spicy. They are mixed and shaken to perfection, super drinkable and great for a night out on the town. But who says we have to wait for the next Phuza Thursday to get our drink on?
Here are 3 of our favourite cocktail recipes to get your weekend off to a good start:
The Boulevardier
Similar to a Negroni, the Boulevardier replaces the gin with whisky and also includes sweet vermouth and campari. Where the Negroni is crisp and lean, the Boulevardier is rich and tantalising.
Ingredients:
30ml rye whisky or bourbon whisky
30ml sweet vermouth
30ml Campari
Add ingredients to a mixing glass. Fill the glass with ice cubes and stir for about 30 seconds. Strain contents into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange peel.
The Vodka Pom Pom
45ml vodka of your choice
splash lime juice
ginger beer
grenadine
four raspberries
Pour the vodka and lemon juice into a highball glass or short glass. Top with ginger beery and float grenadine on top. Garnish with raspberries.
Pear and Cranberry Bellini
This cocktail will give your glass of Champagne a twist.
1 cup pear nectar
1 cup cranberry juice cocktail
1 bottle Prosecco or Champagne of your choice.
In a small pitcher or large measuring cup, combine pear nectar and cranberry juice cocktail. Pour 1/4 cup juice mixture into Champagne glasses, dividing evenly. Top with Prosecco or Champagne.
