The popular concept, First Thursdays that first launched in Cape Town not so long ago, has slowly but surely moved its way to Joburg and we couldn’t be more thrilled!
While the concept is already gaining attraction in Braamfontein and Maboneng, we can’t get enough of First Thursdays held in Rosebank on Keyes Avenue.
The art galleries and showrooms found in the Trumpet Building, most recently known as the Keyes Art Mile are open to the public from 5pm to 9pm (and later) on the first Thursday of every month. Visitors can either explore these galleries on foot, indulge in an array of Jozi’s finest food trucks or hang out at the Union Pop-Up Bar.
Speaking about First Thursdays, Joshua Shifren of Union Bar, explains, “It is not often that we get to explore arts and culture in such a casual environment that is not intimidating. People enjoy perusing the Trumpet building and socialising on the streets while eating, drinking and enjoying live jazz bands.”
For those who plan to arrive early, expect to find new exhibition opening parties held at galleries, Everard Read, Circa Gallery, Whatiftheworld and SMAC Gallery. Enjoy the beats of live music, refreshing cocktails from Milk Bar or MESH Club Bar and delicious burgers from BGR.
Rosebank’s Keyes Art Mile really has something for everyone and is bound to turn the first Thursday night of every month into a night to remember!
