As the saying goes, behind every woman is a fabulous pair of shoes and we couldn’t agree more… because shoes can make or break your look, no matter the occasion.
If there is any part of your matric dance wardrobe you’re most likely to actually wear again and again, it’s the shoes, right?
We chatted to celebrity stylist, Aseema Kazi, who gave us a few tips on selecting the perfect pair of matric dance shoes:
“There are a number of factors that can influence the style of matric dance shoes you go for. Often you’ll want them to be in line with your outfit as well as make a style statement all on their own,” explains Aseema, adding,
“One of the main things to consider is comfort – you’re likely to spend a large portion of the party on your feet, so ensuring your shoes are comfortable and easy to walk in would be the first thing to take into account.”
We all have our limits when it comes to heel height, and some people can tolerate higher heels than others.
Aseema, who founded international consulting agency, The Style Factor and has appeared on SABC 3’s Afternoon Express, goes on to say, “If you want to wear heels to your matric dance, the best way to work out the most suitable heel height for you is to sit down then raise your leg, allowing your foot to relax. In this relaxed position, your foot should naturally go to point, at this stage, the distance between your heel and toes measured at a right angle will give you the optimum heel height for the most comfort.”
She further adds the biggest trends making a comeback this matric dance season are the kitten heels and heels with jewellery encrusted buckles or embellished details.
“The stunning Dreamer peep toe court shoe is an ideal shoe showcasing a luxurious lace and satin mix with a jewelled flower brooch. Florals are definitely here to stay, so why not add a floral strappy heel to your breathtakingly stunning outfit, or choose a shoe with a pop of colour. But if you’re looking to take your overall look to another level, then opt for a metallic shoe, because it’s also the biggest trend right now.
Below are a few of Aseema’s top matric dance shoes that can be found at Dune, Zara, Nine West, Aldo and Jimmy Choo, for those not on a tight budget.
All these brands are available at Sandton City Shopping Centre.
