One of our favourite Italian restaurants has to be Jamie’s Italian located in Melrose Arch, we love the double volume dining area, and the mix of wooden tables and tiled walkways, and the fact that the kitchen is fully open, allowing the public a chance to catch a glimpse in to the buzz of the kitchen – which it certainly does do when it is busy!

Jamies has been serving up yummy Italian nosh for a few years now, and have just issued a few changes to their highly popular menu. The thing that is so exciting about this menu change is that this is the first Jamie’s to deviate from the well known international standardised menu – and incorporate not only more local foods, but also uses sustainable ingredients sourced locally – thereby not only ensuring that the menu remains consistent, but also in some cases reducing the cost of the dishes as local equivalents are not only as tasty, but often cheaper to source. Great news!

There are sixteen delicious new dishes on offer and five of these have been created locally – classic Italian tastes made lekker!

The five new South African dishes are:
• Seafood bucatini
• Buttermilk-fried chicken burger (above)
• Herby lemon chicken
• Spicy chilli beef pizza
• Bistecca alla Fiorentine

Meat and fish for the dishes are sourced locally and are prepared fresh every day. Now you can look forward to big flavours, old classics, and amazing new and healthy ingredient twists.

Some of the other new menu dishes include a delicious slow-cooked lamb shank (shown above) – brazed until almost off the bone, served on olive oil-infused mashed potato with a rich lamb gravy and salsa verde – and a mouth-watering Oxtail lasagna – herby 12-hour oxtail ragù layered with homemade pasta, Béchamel, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

“This menu is close to our heart and has taken a very long time to develop to perfection to suit the taste requirements of our customers. We are very excited to be able to launch our Jamie’s Italian winter menu that’ll meet every ‘hearty food’ expectation,” says Eugene Kriel, restaurant manager of Jamie’s Italian South Africa.
