UCOOK has just released their new Christmas Feast Box and we had the pleasure of trying it out for ourselves.
‘Tis the season to be jolly! Thanks to UCOOK, you now have another reason to look forward to Christmas celebrations this year as SA’s largest meal-kit provider has launched their Christmas Feast Box and it includes delicious dishes that are perfect for entertaining this festive season.
The UCOOK Feast Box encompasses everything you love about a warm summer Christmas – their chefs have designed the menu to be as simple and easy to follow as possible and have sourced the highest quality produce that is sustainable, free-range and locally produced.
Starter options include roasted figs enrobed in prosciutto as well as spinach and ricotta ravioli. We chose the spinach and ricotta, which was quick and easy to make and packed with buttery goodness from the butter and sage sauce.
Some of the main selections include the festive stuffed & deboned chicken, beef fillet tagliata, a delectable pork belly and a whole baked kob with lemon and dill. Veggie options can enjoy the summer Mediterranean tart made ‘caponata’ style and served with bocconcini.
We chose to have the festive stuffed chicken and were pleased to learn the chicken had already been pre-stuffed for us, so there was no need to get our hands dirty. We simply cut the carrots and onions and placed it on the tray as a base for the chicken to cook over and made the rich, filling, gravy sauce while the chicken was roasting.
Choose between four out of a selection of seven sides to accompany your main meal, which include a green salad, classic roast potatoes (with duck fat or coconut oil), cheesy cauliflower gratin, maple glazed carrots, brûléed baby onions and braised red cabbage.
We chose the green salad, which was loaded with healthy greens like broccoli, peas and green beans; the classic roast potatoes roasted in garlic and duck fat; the cheesy cauliflower gratin with truffle oil and the maple glazed carrots. We had to let the carrots simmer in the maple sauce for a lot longer than the recipe suggested as they were still a bit raw and hard inside.
And for dessert? We ended the whole evening off by indulging in their Eat ‘n Mess, which was a gorgeous combination of meringue, fresh berries, pistachios and cream.
Cooking the Festive Box was a real treat and certainly something the whole family can partake in doing together. The meals were hearty, tasty and delicious and the portions were more than enough.
