In case you had not realised – we love to travel and seeing as we live in such a beautiful country, and a weekend escape requires a mere hour or two in the car, we are all in for exploring more.
Our travels have of course led us to the beautiful De Hoek Country Hotel located cosily amongst the Magaliesberg Mountains and only an hour and fifteen minutes away from Johannesburg.
Driving through the gate and over the rickety bridge would give you the feeling that you have finally escaped from the madness of the outside world, and beaming faces await, ready with a water, a glass of bubbly and a hand to help with your luggage.
The beautiful old stone building are nothing short of charming and the beautifully manicured gardens lend to the general air of countryside calm. Breathe. Again. Aaaah.
Whether you are here for a romantic getaway, an executive conference, a bespoke wedding or just to unwind in a tranquil setting – the team will make you feel like part of the family.
They boast having excellent 5-star service and superb cuisine, and they are not wrong, it is very clear to see why their international and local guests keep returning time and again.
The main hotel is resplendent with high ceilings, artwork, polished wood and brass, and glass doors and windows leading into the gardens. You would be excused to go exploring of course – and do keep an eye out for the ducks in pond too.
Our room overlooked the river and was beautifully decorated with an old-world charm – and a rather cute fluffy bunny on the bed, who is available to take home for a price, we very almost did, who doesn’t love to snuggle at night.
The bathroom was enormous, a large shower, bath and even a double basin were a delight, and there was nothing short in the room, from a hair dryer to coffee station and great Wi-Fi too.
De Hoek caters for top executive conferences and meetings where creative thinking and important decisions are made and have a variety of function rooms available.
If you are planning an intimate wedding, then you would want to consider De Hoek. The gardens lend perfectly to photography and a full bridal service is offered where the romantic expectations of every couple are satisfied by spectacular flowers, table décor, wedding cake and cuisine.
Ceremonies are held in the lovely manicured gardens and receptions are hosted in a choice of 2 two venues, depending on their size. Whether you’re going for vintage, modern and funky, English country garden or for a more formal, traditional wedding style, De Hoek has them all…
Within close proximity to the hotel are a number of activities such as hot air ballooning, Magalies tree top canopy tour, elephant sanctuary and much more to keep you entertained for longer stays, but to be honest we were happy drinking champagne in the beautiful gardens and enjoying the amazing culinary delights of Chef Jacques Swart.
No task or request is too big or too small for the smiling team that are as available as you need them to be during your stay. You will not want to leave, we certainly didn’t, and cannot wait to return to this beautiful gem.
