Hayman’s of London Dry Gin has launched in South Africa. Made in England using a 150-year old family recipe of just ten botanicals steeped in English wheat spirit for a full day before distillation, it is a fresh, bright and classically balanced gin with crisp citrus, subtle notes of exotic spice.
Here are three cocktail recipes to spoil your friends and family this weekend:
TRUE ENGLISH GIN & TONIC
50ml Hayman’s London Dry Gin
100ml premium Indian Tonic Water
Twist of Lemon peel
1.Fill a highball with cubed ice.
2. Pour in the gin.
3. Top up with 100ml tonic or to taste.
4. Serve with a twist of lemon peel.
FOR THE TRUE TASTE
To achieve a bartender’s precision with the garnish, use a potato peeler to take a strip of lemon zest and trim with a sharp knife to create an even shape. Snap the zest’s natural oils over the top of your G&T to enhance the gin’s natural citrus character.
ELSANTA FIZZ
50ml Hayman’s London Dry Gin
15ml Maraschino Cherry Liqueur
15ml Lemon Juice
20ml Elsanta Strawberry Syrup
Soda Water
1. Fill a highball glass with cubed ice.
2. Shake the gin, liqueur, lemon juice and syrup.
3. Strain into the glass.
4. Top with soda water.
5. Garnish with the taste of an English Summer: a slice of fresh strawberry and sprig of mint.
FOR THE TRUE TASTE
Pre-made strawberry syrup is readily available in quality supermarkets and specialist shops, but making your own is a foolproof way of capturing the true taste of an English strawberry when they’re in season.
OLD TOM & LEMON TONIC
50ml Hayman’s Old Tom Gin
Premium Sicilian Lemon Tonic
1. Fill a highball glass with cubed ice.
2. Pour in the gin.
3. Top up with tonic.
4. Garnish with a lemon wedge.
FOR THE TRUE TASTE
It may sound counter-intuitive, but make sure your glass is full to the brim with ice, to ensure that your drink doesn’t become diluted. The more ice in your glass, the slower it melts, meaning less risk of dilution.
Hayman’s London Dry Gin is available nationwide in all good bottle stores, including Makro, Norman Goodfellows and Pick n Pay Liquor, retailing at R330 per bottle.
