The pantomime is certainly one of the calendar highlights on the Joburg theatre scene, and always loved (and giggled at) by young and old during the month that it takes to the stage at The Joburg Theatre.
This year’s panto (brought to Jozi by Bernard Jay and Janice Honeyman) is set to tbe the Fairest Panto in All The Land – Snow White, of course.
Says Janice Honeyman… “It’s panto-time again! Music, dancing, sensational sparkly sets and a super story, jokes, laughter and ‘happy-ever-after. And this year it’s back to my very first panto ever, Snow White. It has always been a great favourite of mine! Why? Because it’s sweet and sad, romantic, rollicking, funny, and full of fantasy.”
She adds “We have a kind, loveable heroine, a handsome, hunky prince, seven cute dwarfs, a magic mirror and of course the ultimate example of Evil – the wicked Queen Hildegonda. And then, as always, there are all sorts of sensational surprises – I’m not saying what they are – you must come and discover them for yourselves!”
The pantomime will be running on The Mandela Stage at Joburg Theatre from 3rd November 3rd until 23rd December and promises not to be missed. There are some big names on stage this year as well – Desmond Dube (who is always a hoot) and legendary 702 talk radio show host and international champion rugby player John Robbie will be making his pantomime debut too!
Ben Voss will play the role of the Wicked Queen Hildegonda Hoggenham, and there are many more highlights including two of South Africa’s most highly acclaimed rising theatre stars, Kiruna-Lind Devar (Sweet Charity, Saturday Night Fever, Evita) as the Princess and Tshepo Ncokoane (Janice Honeyman’s Sleeping Beauty, Priscilla, The Color Purple) as Prince Chuck B Charming.
