Twice a year the best of the best come out to play – and that is of course at SA Fashion Week, the highlight of the fashion calendar – and not only for the clothing. Play spot the celeb in the front row, take in all the trade shows and displays as well as support young and up and coming designers all at one
SA Fashion Week are coming of age – yes they are turning 21 this year and this season AW19 will see an incredible 56 designers showing their Autumn/Winter Collections. The highlight of this celebration year will be an exclusive book and also an exhibition set to take us on a magical journey through the evolution of fashion design in South Africa, spotlighting the best fashion moments the country has to offer.
They are the driving force behind structuring, strengthening and growing a consciousness of the enormous socio-economical value of a vibrant South African fashion design culture. Fashion Week recognises the power our diversity holds in the fashion sector – still one of the most socially inclusive industries in the country.
Besides the book and exhibition there will be loads on offer to suit every taste – from ladies wear to men’s wear, a trade show for media, as well as several competitions and springboards for young and up and coming designers to not only show case their work to the public, but also a chance to work with some of the industry greats.
Collaborations are also key and Woolworths will once again collaborate with the frontrunners of local fashion as they present the Collections of Rich Mnisi, Thebe Magugu, Mmuso Maxwell, Wanda Lephoto and The Watermelon Social Club.
The Cape Wool SA designer challenge will be back again and this challenge highlights and honours some of the top design talent in the country – 6 designers over this three year period will get the opportunity to, not only get a fully sponsored show – fabric included at SAFW but also take part in the ‘Making it in Textiles’ conference in Bradford, UK all expenses paid.
