We love Mirari Gin and this artisanal distillery nestled in the heart of Johannesburg’s trendy Maboneng precinct, has been creating cool beverages since 2013 at their Time Anchor Distillery. The unique and fragrant Mirari Gin Range, created by Chief Distiller Shanna-Rae Wilby has three variants, each with their own unique signature taste. Shanna-Rae is one of the significant women who is changing the narrative that this is a man’s industry, and we love that about her. She heads up a distillery that has progressed from a 100-litre holding capacity to 100 000 litres since its founding – no mean feat at all. Their creative Amber African Botanical Gin bears the mark of 13 botanicals that includes multiple botanicals that are indigenous to South Africa, including, Honeybush, Rose Geranium, Sour Figs and Boekenhout Honey. Each 500l litre batch of their Pink Damask Rose Gin, on the other hand, is distilled with…
Summer has never looked so fine – and we see cocktails on our horizon, that’s for sure! Thanks to the team at one of SA’s premium drinks companies – Truman & Orange we can now happily sip on our fave gin cocktails with the latest craze – Malfy Gin Rosa! As the name suggests, the gin is stunning pink in colour and, typical of the exceptional, Italian quality we’ve come to expect from Malfy, no detail has been spared. The bottle is beautifully frosted and boasts traditional Italian glass painting techniques, with the liquid bearing testament to the centuries of experience and heritage behind the Vergnano family and the traditional pot stills used to produce it. Malfy Gin Rosa is an expert composition of classic Southern Italian citrus, Pompelmo Rosa (pink grapefruit) with Rabarbaro (rhubarb), which is grown widely and used in many classic Italian drinks such as Aperol. Add…
Local is always lekker, as we know, and SA’s first ever gin bursary has just been awarded to the country’s first black-owned gin brand – Mayine Gin. Mayine is managed by a husband and wife team from Khayelitsha in the Western Cape – Luvuyo and Nodumo Jongile – who have had an inspiring and exciting series of events, and have just taken home a R 100 000 bursary to help grow their business, culminating in a trip to London’s Juniperlooza Festival next year on World Gin Day. “The SA Gin Business Bursary is the first of its kind, not just in South Africa, but in Africa, from what we know. And it will be the first of many, as we plan to support one up-and-coming artisan within the gin industry every year within this program,” explains the idea originator and donor, Jean Buckham, owner of SA’s Premier Craft Gin Club,…
