It’s been three years in the making, but it has certainly been worth the wait for Nitida’s 100% Pinot Noir bubbly – The Grande Matriarch MCC 2015! Amber in colour, this refreshing and clean bubbly is one of our must haves for the festive season ahead. “After three years of hard work, we are finally releasing our very first 100% Pinot Noir bubbles, The Grande Matriarch. During the final stages of getting this wine ready, we realised that everyone’s expectations of a blush bubbly are very different and upon further investigation we also noted that the other 100% Pinot Noir bubblies on the shelves are also not what we had envisioned.” says Nitida winemaker, Daniel Keulder. “This gave us a clean canvas to make a serious style Method Cap Classique that ticked all the boxes of what we expect of a blush bubbly – a truly unique Nitida wine.” Adds…
If you enjoy tasting great wines in beautiful surroundings, then you are in the right city for one of the best events on the wine calendar. The Sommeliers Selection wine tasting festival is heading back to Johannesburg for the third year and promises to be bigger and better than ever and with a range of wines to suit every palate and pocket. The Sommeliers Selection is the only South African wine competition judged solely by a panel of South Africa’s top sommeliers, in categories fashioned around the perfect varietals for a restaurant wine menu. This year, more than 300 wines from 120 of the country’s top wine estates were entered into the contest which was held in Cape Town in June. Winning wines to be sampled at the Gauteng tastings come from over 50 farms and include the likes of Almenkerk, Babylonstoren, De Grendel, Eikendal, Glen Carlou, Jan Harmsgat, L’Avenir,…
We love good wine, and sharing good wine with friends and family, but an experience with the aptly named KWV collection titled ‘The Mentors’ is one that you will certainly not forget. Studying anything from a Mentor is always a great idea, and when it comes to wine drinking, we support this theory 100%! The winemaking team at KWV, under the guidance of wine maker Izele van Blerk realised that the boundary-breaking approach in The Mentors cellar was leading to remarkable terroir-driven wines that deserved their own spot light from the other KWV offerings. The first wines were bottled in 2006, but it was in 2009 that The Mentors range prepared it’s wings for flight. Although they now produce a staple portfolio of eight wines, the winemaking team have the enviable freedom of pursuing innovative new varietals and blends from every harvest – taking their cue from the vineyards. The…
