Local is always lekker, as we know, and SA’s first ever gin bursary has just been awarded to the country’s first black-owned gin brand – Mayine Gin. Mayine is managed by a husband and wife team from Khayelitsha in the Western Cape – Luvuyo and Nodumo Jongile – who have had an inspiring and exciting series of events, and have just taken home a R 100 000 bursary to help grow their business, culminating in a trip to London’s Juniperlooza Festival next year on World Gin Day. “The SA Gin Business Bursary is the first of its kind, not just in South Africa, but in Africa, from what we know.
