Things To Do: Top 9 Favourite Markets To Visit In Joburg

We love a good market especially when it involves a mix of local arts and crafters, boutique designers and some of the best food stalls in town.

That’s why we decided to round up a list of our eight favourite markets to visit in Joburg:

The Linden Market

The Linden Market, found at the Botanical Gardens on 45 Thomas Bowler Street in Emmarentia, is all about showcasing beautifully crafted products to support the local community. From vintage to artisinal and exclusive, the market aims at creating a unique platform for local designers, food vendors and shop owners. Choosing only the finest quality brands, the selection process is quite lengthy, which is why the market is only open every few months. The next market takes place on Saturday 2 September from 9am until 5pm. www.thelindenmarket.com

The market includes food vendors of artisan coffee, Persian pastries, Belgian waffles and French crepes and tons of other delicious cuisine from around the world. Nestled under trees at the Field and Study Park, corner 14th street and Louise Avenue in Parkmore, the Field Market is a relatively new market to hit Sandton and is only open on the second Saturday of every month. With an offering of food and beverage stalls, local handcrafted goods and live music, it’s a sure way to spend a fun afternoon in the park with friends and family. The market is open from 10am to 3pm although some food stalls set up shop from 9am. There is a parking fee of R10 per car at the main parking field and all proceeds are donated to the Friends of the Field & Study to assist them with the maintenance and improvement of the park.
