What To Do In Joburg Over The Easter Weekend

It’s almost the Easter weekend and while most people plan a weekend getaway over this period, there is still plenty to do in Joburg this weekend to keep you entertained.

Chances are, even if you’ve been living in Johannesburg your whole life, some of these are still on your ‘To-Do’ list, so read on and get planning…

  • Hop-on hop-of bus

This is the easiest and most convenient way to see the sites of the city. From the Apartheid Museum and Constitutional Hill to Gold Reef City and the Origins Centre at WITS, you’ll be able to hop off at some of the most historical places in the city. Alternatively, stay on the bus and take in the beautiful sites and views.

  • Cradle of Humankind

This is an absolute must-visit for locals and tourists alike. Visit the site that is the renowned origin of humankind, where you can tour the incredible visitor centres (trust us – I will blow your mind!), have some lunch and then possibly head off for a wander through the Sterkfontein caves – this is a day out you’ll certainly never forget!

  • Visit a market… or three!

There is no shortage of markets around the city, so you are sure to find one to suit your needs. Why not try head to a different one every couple of weekends, as you will find yourself in completely different parts of the city – and you’re bound to end up somewhere you’ve never been before.

Fourways Farmers Market

  • Harties Cableway

For a fabulous day out, take a drive to Hartbeespoort for a trip up the cable car. On a clear day, you can see for miles, and the info plaques at the various view points give you great background and history to our awesome Jozi. Stay up the mountain for lunch, drinks and, on certain days, live music.

  • Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens

This little gem is the ideal day out… the beautiful gardens are endless, and the perfect spot to enjoy a romantic picnic or a fun family day out. If you’re feeling more active, put on your walking shoes and get close up to the resident Black Eagles – something truly spectacular! They also regularly have concerts and a number or restaurants to visit, so check out their website and get organised.
